A subculture is a group with a culture hidden that differentiate them from larger culture to which they belong.

Subculture always remains an inspiration for fashion

Many times, subcultures do get formed based on the style that the people put up an fashion themselves with a root from a main culture.

here are few examples of fashion subcultures:-



Gothic subculture



The Gothic subculture is a music subculture that began in England, during the early 1980s, where it developed from the audience of Gothic rock and offshoot of the post punk genre.

Gothic fashion is Marked by conspicuously dark, antiquated and homogeneous features.

A dark, sometimes morbid fashion and style of dress, typical Gothic fashion includes a pale complexion with coloured black hair and Black period style clothing

Gothic styling often goes hand in hand with aesthetic, authenticity and expression, and it is mostly Considered to be an artistical concepts. Clothes are frequently self designed.



Grunge subculture



The Grunge Subculture is a subculture that began in 1990s

It comprised of alternative rock music fans that concede on their cynicism of societal norms, materialism and conformity to the masses.

Clothing commonly worn by grunge musicians in Washington were a mundane, everyday attire which was similar to what the worn at home.



Hippie subculture



A hippie is a member of a counterculture of the 1960s, originally a youth movement that began in the U.S. during the Mid 1960s and spread to other countries around the world.

Hippie fashion and values had a major effect n culture, influencing popular music, television, film, literature, and the arts. Since the 1960s, mainstream society has assimilated many aspects of hippie culture. The religious and cultural diversity the hippie espoused has gained widespread acceptance, and eastern philosophy and spiritual concepts have reached a larger audience.

Following in the footsteps of the beats, many hippies used cannabis (marijuana), considering it pleasurable and benign, they enlarge their spiritual pharmacopoeia to include hallucinogens such as peyote, L.S.D., and D.M.T. while often renouncing the use of alcohol.



Punk



Punk subculture includes a diverse array of ideologies, fashion and other forms of expression, visual art,dance,literature and film It is largely charecterised by anti-establishment views and promotions of individual freedom,and is centred on a loud,aggressive genre of rock music called punk rock.

Early punk fashion adapted everyday objects for aesthetic effect:ripped clothing was held together by safety pins or wrapped with tape; ordinary clothing was customised by embellishing it with marker or adorning it with paint; A black bin liner became a dress,shirt or skirt, safety pins and razor blades were used as jewellery also popular have been leather, rubber, and PVC clothing that is often associated with transgressive sexuality, like BDSM and S&M.A designer associated with early UK punk fashion was Vivienne westwood, who made clothes for MALCOLM MACLAREN’s BOTIQUE in the king’s road,which became famous as ‘SEX’.
